Can we convert the current crisis into an opportunity for systemic change?
Our current world order has given us unprecedented rise in global wealth, amazing technological advances, and the longest period in history without major global conflict. The price for these and other positives is destructive levels of pollution, extreme inequality, and at $250 Trillion of total global debt, an indentured future, to name a few.
Breathing in clean air, seeing empty streets, and spending quality time with family makes me wonder if a slower pace of life isn't better for all of us.
Our current system is driven by competition, fueled by our greed for more things. It's become focused on the short-term, financially on the next quarter, politically on the next election cycle, and so on. Maybe we take this time to elevate our sights and see if this road leads to where we want to go.
Maybe every year the whole world takes two months off together and reflects on what we did right, what we did wrong, and what needs to improve. Everyone contributes, starting with our own lives, then our families, our communities, our country, and finally the world. The last three then complied into directives for our leaders to build a better world. Idealistic or doable?
